Deputy: “Separatists are doomed to vacate the corridor of Lachin”
Azerbaijan demands that Armenians move through the new corridor that is being built outside Lachin soon.
This was announced by the leadership of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the second half of the day on August 2.
Just yesterday, Arayik Harutyunyan, who calls himself the president of the separatists, called an extended meeting of the “Security Council” with the participation of political forces and local “deputies” .
“The current situation, as well as the tension in the line of contact with the Azerbaijani troops, were discussed. According to the report by the commander of the separatist military units, Kamo Vardanyan, tension remains in a number of regions,” the information spread by Turan emphasizes.
It is reported that the Azerbaijani side, through Russian peacekeepers, recently demanded the organization of traffic from Karabakh to Armenia via a new route:
“It has become clear what caused the tension in Karabakh in the last two days. Azerbaijan is completing the construction of an alternative road to be used by Armenians. Therefore, Armenians should finally liberate the city of Lachin and the village of Zabukh, stop the traffic through the corridor of Lachin and use a new route.”
Yesterday, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation.
They touched upon the implementation of the agreements reached in the tripartite statements dated November 9, 2020, January 11, and November 26, 2021.
During the telephone conversation, views were exchanged on the humanitarian problems caused by the 44-day war.
In this context, the importance of releasing and returning Armenian prisoners of war and other prisoners was mutually noted .
At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The press service of the Kremlin reported that the parties discussed the implementation of the agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh:
“Separate practical aspects of the implementation of the tripartite agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh dated November 9, 2020, January 11, and November 26, 2021 were discussed between the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.”
Also, at the initiative of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, there was a telephone conversation between Azerbaijani Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov.
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan released information about this.
“During the telephone conversation, the parties discussed regional security, as well as other issues of mutual interest,” the ministry noted.
Arzu Naghiyev, a member of the Defense, Security and Anti-Corruption Committee of the Milli Majlis, told Meydan TV that even if the separatists make some attempt, they are doomed to vacate the Lachin corridor:
“Because according to the statement of November 10, 2020, the corridor of Lachin should be vacated soon and the Russian peacekeeping contingent should be moved to an alternative route.”
According to him, the Syrian Armenians who were settled in the villages of Lachin 20-25 years ago do not want to leave the area:
“The reason is that the region is of strategic importance. However, since it is an illegal settlement, Armenians will leave the villages by all means. In fact, the current situation stems from the desire to maintain the status quo. The most important thing is that the Russian peacekeepers do not fulfill their obligations until the end. In this regard, Russian peacekeepers are one of the causes of the incident.”
On June 28, the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, said that after the construction of the new transport route, the villages of Zabukh and Sus in Lachin will come under the control of Azerbaijan .

In September 2020, a conflict began between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
More than 6,000 soldiers from both sides died in the conflict, which lasted 44 days and was called the Second Karabakh War.
Azerbaijan regained control over a part of the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
According to the declaration of November 10 of that year (signed between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia), the fighting was stopped.
After that, Russian peacekeepers were deployed in the Lachin corridor and in Karabakh.
Before the Second Karabakh War, the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and 7 adjacent districts were held in control of the breakaway government supported by Armenia until the ceasefire agreement in 1994.
The conflict started with the territorial claims of Armenia against Azerbaijan from the USSR period.
