New Bill to Introduce Martial Law, Curfew During War Time

Amendments to legislation concerning martial law were passed in the National Assembly (Milli Majlis) on February 14. The bill prohibits the public activities and gatherings of political parties and non-government organizations; rallies will be banned and a curfew will be imposed. Information on internet websites will be subject to censorship, especially if concerning military operations. For a period of three months

after

 martial law will have come to an end, elections for both the presidency and the parliament will be delayed.

Some experts have speculated that according to the wording of the bill, curfew and martial law could be implemented even in times of peace. We asked Baku residents their opinion on the government’s intentions with this newest proposal.
