The week of March 6 – 10 saw an 8th March on Fountain Square, a violation of the ceasefire in Karabakh, and an armed incident in the center of Baku.
8th March on Fountain Square: “We want to live!”
On March 8, at 3 p.m., feminists and social activists held an 8th of March walk in the capital’s Fountain Square, under the slogan “We want to live!”.
Before the start of the action, the area was surrounded by law enforcement officers. Although the police reminded the participants of the action that the march was not planned, they did not seriously obstruct it.
According to Narmin Shahmarzadeh, one of the event’s organizers, as representatives of the feminist movement, they have been holding marches related to the trampling of women’s rights and women’s violence for the 5th:
“At the marches, we discuss the problems concerning Azerbaijani women. This year, like last year, murders of women continue, but the state does not take any measures in this regard.”
She said that the action aimed to draw attention to the murders of women, the shaming of women, and the use of their intimate images as a political tool.
Different statements from Baku and Yerevan regarding the violation of the ceasefire
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan informed that on the night of March 8 to 9, positions of the Azerbaijani army located in the Karabakh region were fired upon 23 times.
The ministry said that the positions of the Azerbaijani Army located in Khojavend, Lachin, Khojaly regions, and Shusha city, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, were fired intermittently.
The Ministry of Defense of Armenia accused the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan of spreading disinformation and affirmed that the affirmations did not correspond to reality.
Armed incident in the center of Baku: 3 people were shot
An armed incident took place in the center of Baku at noon on March 10. It is reported that three people were shot as a result of the shooting that happened on Samad Vurgun street in the Nasimi district.
The information was also confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The press service of the ministry told Meydan TV that the police received information about the injuries of the three people by firearms:
“Police officers were brought to the scene of the incident. An investigation is underway. Additional information will be provided. “
According to the information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect in the incident was detained by police officers.
