A criminal case has been launched against Mikhail Delyagin, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and deputy chairman of the Duma’s Committee on Economic Policy.

He was identified as a defendant and was remanded in custody in absentia by a Azerbaijani court decision. Delyagin was put on the international wanted list by Interpol after that.

Mikhail Delyagin is accused of making anti-Azerbaijani calls during a broadcast on Russia 1 TV channel on March 28.

The Prosecutor’s Office in Azerbaijan concluded that Delyagin’s actions against the country violated articles in the national Criminal Code regarding war incitement, terrorism with threats using firearms or weapons, and national, racial, social or religious hatred and hostility.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, “Mikhail Delyagin has openly called for an aggressive war against Azerbaijan. He spoke provocatively about the use of tactical nuclear weapons to destroy the country’s energy infrastructure and oil industry”.

A number of partner countries have been warned regarding Delyagin. Azerbaijan asked for his immediately detention, in case he enters the territory of those countries, and further extradition to Azerbaijan.

At present, an intensive criminal investigation is underway.
