The investigation into the sexual assault of public activist Sanay Yagmur has been completed. The materials of the criminal case were sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes for analysis.
Yagmur’s cousin, Asgar Agazadeh, was prosecuted for aggression and sexual assault against her. He was charged under Article 149.2.3 of the Criminal Code (when committed against a minor).
The investigation into this criminal case was conducted by the Yasamal District Prosecutor’s Office for about a year. Asgar Agazadeh was not prosecuted.
After the issue became public some time ago, the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office took control of the criminal case. The Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office has been instructed to continue the investigation. Asgar Agazadeh was then arrested.
However, he does not plead guilty and denies all allegations.
16-years old Sanay Yagmur is well-known public activist in Azerbaijan. Her mother, writer Zumrud Yagmur, publicized the happening in a press conference. In the occasion, she made clear that the responsible authorities were trying to hinder the investigation and denounced them for inaction.
