The week of February 27 – March 3 saw the end of activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev’s hunger strike, a new list of political prisoners, and negotiations supported in Karabakh.

Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has stopped his hunger strike

Social activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who has been on hunger strike since January 9, reportedly stopped his protest on February 28, according to his lawyer Agil Layj.

The lawyer told Meydan TV that on February 28, he met with Bakhtiyar Hajiyev at the Correctional Institution of the Penitentiary Service. He informed that Hajiyev thanked everyone who supported him during this period through his lawyer. The social activist said that hunger should not mean the end of the struggle.

” The legal struggle will continue until justice is achieved… “, added Agil Lajic.

According to his lawyers, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who weighed 84.5 kilograms when he was arrested, entered the pretrial detention center and weights now 63 kilograms due to the 51-day hunger strike.

A new list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan has been compiled

There are 93 political prisoners in Azerbaijan according to the updated list of political prisoners released by the Freedom of Azerbaijan Political Prisoners Union on February 27.

The organization divided political prisoners into seven groups: journalists and bloggers, members of opposition parties and movements, political emigrants deported from Germany, religious people (the group with the most people), those convicted in the Tartar case, the convicts in the Ganja case, and those sentenced to life imprisonment.

The updated list of political prisoners was prepared by human rights defenders, the director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy, Leyla Yunus, and the head of the Public Union Monitoring Center of Political Prisoners, Elshan Hasanov.

Freedom of Azerbaijan Political Prisoners Union said that the list of political prisoners was prepared following resolution No. 1900 on political prisoners adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in October 2012.

The United States supports Azerbaijan’s negotiations with the Karabakh

The USA welcomed the negotiations between the representatives of Azerbaijan and the Armenians of Karabakh. The correspondent of Turan in Washington reported concerning the representative of the US State Department.

” We welcome mutual relations between the government of Azerbaijan and the representatives of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the State Department official said.

According to him, these negotiations will have a significant impact on peace:

We hope that all parties will be able to continue productive relations. Ensuring the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh is crucial for achieving solid peace in the South Caucasus.”

On March 1, a meeting was held between the representatives of the Azerbaijani government and Karabakh Armenians in Khojaly. According to the official information of Baku, among other issues, the issues of reintegration of Armenians into Azerbaijani society were discussed.
