Today, on November 17, a court hearing was held regarding the complaint filed by Bahruz Samedov, a doctoral student at Charles University in the Czech Republic and a scientific researcher, about his unlawful placement in solitary confinement at Penitentiary Number 11.
During the hearing, Bahruz Samedov himself and his lawyer, Zibeyde Sadigova, spoke.
The court declared the case unreviewed. The judge stated that the case should be considered by the Baku Administrative Court.
Samedov’s relatives informed Meydan TV about this.
According to them, the head of Penitentiary Number 11 has filed a complaint to the court requesting Samedov’s transfer to the closed section of the Umbaki penitentiary complex.
Bahruz Samedov is known for his research on the Azerbaijan Armenia conflict, as well as for writing articles that criticize the Azerbaijani government.
He was detained on August 21, 2024, by officers of the State Security Service.
He has been charged under Article 274 of the Criminal Code for state treason.
Bahruz Samedov rejects the charge and does not consider himself guilty.
On June 23, he was sentenced to fifteen years in prison.
