In the light of recent deaths of Azerbaijani fighters in Syria, the Parliament will take measures to prevent online calls for Azerbaijanis to fight abroad, said Speaker Oktay Asadov. The Parliament is planning to amend legislation in order to prevent such calls.
According to APA, the measures were proposed by MP Fuad Muradov, who pointed out that websites where such calls are posted should be shut down. “One of the Facebook pages is an open propaganda and youth registers there. Those pages should be shut down. We shouldn’t pay attention to the statements of international organizations about limitation of internet freedoms in Azerbaijan. This is an open call for terrorism and we should take serious measures,” said Muradov.
The MP noted that those websites should instead promote exemplary youth, such as the officers, who die on the frontline, defending the country.
The issue was raised the same day Saudi Arabia approved the new decree, according to which Saudi citizens fighting in foreign conflicts will face three to 20 years in prison.
