An artist giving life to stones

Şəkidə anadan olan Elxan Kərimov ixtisasca rəssamdır.

Elkhan Karimov, born in Sheki, had an interest in painting since his childhood. Despite this, it hasn’t been easy for him to obtain his goals:

“I gradually became more and more interested in painting as I got older. So finally I applied to the Baku Fine Arts Academy, but I wasn’t able to get in based off my tests, and I had to continue my education in Mingechevir College of Tourism.”

He now makes his pieces from river stones, other discarded items and the like: “Not everyone can be an artist, but despite this, the number of artists isn’t small. I don’t just paint pictures, I try to do more creative works as well. I work with river stones, everyday items, fruit seeds, etc. Every time I work, new and different ideas come into my head. This inspires me to move forward.”

Having sold hundreds of his works, Elkhan Karimov says that the money for him is still not a compelling factor: “Most of my works are purchased by tourists. Prices start from 10 – 150 manat. But I don’t really work for the money. I work because I love what I do. If I can earn just a little money for the work that I love, I consider that already a great success.”

Elkhan has had exhibitions in several locations across Azerbaijan with other friends. Currently, one of his goals is to have an individual exhibition.
