The portraits were created by Fidan Akhundova, an Azerbaijani artist living in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"701\" height=\"821\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/untitled-8-701x821.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-335171 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 701px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 701\/821;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI was invited to paint portraits of 12 female political prisoners. In the end, we decided to create 11 portraits. One is left blank. This symbolizes that today, in Azerbaijan, a person can end up in prison simply for making a social media post. That space is vacant \u2014 the 12th spot,\u201d <\/em>Fidan Akhundova told Meydan TV in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"641\" height=\"821\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/untitled-4-641x821.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-335159 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 641px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 641\/821;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The portraits include two political prisoners from Georgia and nine from Azerbaijan: Georgian activist Nino Datashvili, co-founder of the news sites Netgazeti and Batumelebi Mzia Amaghlobeli, three members of AbzasMedia, and six female journalists arrested in connection with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/charges-in-the-meydan-tv-case-have-been-intensified\/\">Meydan TV<\/a> case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Postcards featuring the portraits were also printed and displayed at the exhibition.<br><br><em>\u201cEvery guest of the exhibition can write a letter to these women. We will deliver the letters to their intended recipients.
