Sevinj Vagifgizi, the editor-in-chief of AbzasMedia, is being subjected to pressure in the Baku Pre-Trial Detention Center where she is currently being held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ofelia Maharramova, her mother, shared this during an interview with Meydan TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, care packages and supplies brought for Sevinj are not being delivered to her.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u00a0“I went to where she is held on Saturday. Her personal items, including a fan, were not accepted. Neither do they provide them themselves, nor do they allow me to deliver what I bring. Elnur (Elnur Ismayilov \u2013 head of the Baku Investigative Detention Center) is refusing to allow anything in as a matter of principle. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Today, we brought clothes, and Elnur came and said he wouldn\u2019t let the clothes in. Elnur has a personal issue with Sevinj. He\u2019s the head of the facility. He says she writes articles from there. That\u2019s his problem with her. They\u2019ve put Sevinj in the dirtiest cell, didn\u2019t allow any cleaning supplies, no wet wipes, no personal belongings at all<\/em>” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mother says Sevinj told her during a phone call that if this continues, she will be left without clothes in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When we spoke on the phone, Sevinj said, ‘They want us to walk around naked in here. I can\u2019t find clothes to change into in this heat. Are we supposed to walk around naked?’ That\u2019s what they want.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sevinj Vagifgizi was arrested in November 2023.

She was charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling by a group of individuals acting in collusion).

Later, an additional seven charges were added, worsening the allegations.

On June 20, at the Baku Serious Crimes Court, in connection with the \"AbzasMedia case,\" Sevinj Vagifgizi was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

She pleads not guilty.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Ofeliya Maharramova said she is concerned about her daughter\u2019s condition and noted that the package she brought today was also not accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe took things again today. I have a heart condition myself. I recently went to the doctor. I was just released from the hospital due to my heart. All this is from stress. They are torturing my child there, and I\u2019m suffering here. I\u2019m very worried about her. In this heat, they don\u2019t let her have clothes. All of this is being done under the direction of Elnur, the facility\u2019s head.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSevinj wrote that Elnur is selling the prison\u2019s fans in his own stores. She\u2019s right, he\u2019s gone mad with greed. We\u2019ve appealed to the Ombudsman. Elnur listens to no one, refuses to accept any complaints,\u201d<\/em> her mother added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sevinj Vagifgizi, along with AbzasMedia employees Nargiz Absalamova and Elnara Gasimova, who are also imprisoned, made a public appeal. They stated that they had ended their hunger strike which began on July 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“From this moment, we are ending the hunger strike. The reason is that our parents, who are worried about our health due to the hunger strike, have been hospitalized with stress. Each of our parents suffers from cardiovascular issues. During our hunger strike, they had to seek medical attention multiple times. Considering their health, we are ending the hunger strike. We also ask Ulvi to end his strike, taking into account the condition of his mother, Esvira, who has a heart condition.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sevinj Vagifgizi, Nargiz Absalamova, and Elnara Gasimova began their hunger strike on July 22.

They are demanding that AbzasMedia's imprisoned director, Ulvi Hasanli, who began an indefinite hunger strike on July 20, be returned to the Baku Investigative Detention Center.

Ulvi Hasanli has been on hunger strike for 9 days.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
