Shamshad Agha, the editor-in-chief of “argument.az” website and a journalist of Meydan TV, was detained on February 5. His lawyer, Shahla Humbatova, stated that Shamshad Aghayev was detained as a suspect under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling \u2013 committed by a group of individuals acting in concert).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Six employees of Meydan TV \u2013 Aynur Elgunash, Aysel Umudova, Aytaj Ahmadova (Tapdig), Khayala Aghayeva, Ramin Jabrayilzada (Deko), and Natig Javadli, as well as Deputy Director of the Baku School of Journalism Ulvi Tahirov \u2013 were detained on December 6, 2024. They have been charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (smuggling, committed by a group of individuals acting together). As a result, each of them was given a detention measure of 4 months during the investigation period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Searches were conducted at the homes of the detained journalists, and their phones, computers, and other personal belongings were seized. The arrested journalists do not consider themselves guilty.
