{"id":265558,"date":"2023-01-12T13:30:14","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T09:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/?p=265558"},"modified":"2023-01-12T13:30:17","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T09:30:17","slug":"first-lawsuit-against-the-media-development-agency-over-registration-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/first-lawsuit-against-the-media-development-agency-over-registration-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"First lawsuit against the Media Development Agency over registration begins"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>This is the first trial regarding the media registry<\/em> <em>in the country. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/22saat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">22saat.org<\/a>\u00a0 website sued the State Media Development Agency.\u00a0The reason for this is that the institution gave a negative answer to the website&#8217;s request to be included in the media register. After the approval of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/azerbaijans-new-media-law-through-a-journalists-eyes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Media Law<\/a> in January 2022, it is necessary a State registration with the Agency for a media outlet be able to operate in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Media Development Agency\u00a0refused to include 24saat.org in the media register<a href=\"http:\/\/24saat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">.\u00a0<\/a>Based on this, the rejection letter indicated that the site&#8217;s activity is not sustainable.\u00a0The agency requires each site to post at least 20 private news stories to the online media resource every day.\u00a0It is claimed that 24saat.org site does not meet this requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the rejection of the Media Development Agency, the head of the online media resource decided to sue the agency.&nbsp;The case brought against the agency will be considered in the Baku Administrative Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to information obtained by Meydan TV, judge Aysev Almazova was assigned to investigate this matter.\u00a0This will be the first court hearing in Azerbaijan regarding the media registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The website raised before the court the illegality of that decision &#8211; the legislation is clear, incompatible with the Constitution and international agreements, the rejection decision was not substantiated, and asked the agency to place the duty of including the site in the register, to recognize the violation of the right to freedom of expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Khalid Agaliyev, an expert on media law, says that there are other media organizations and journalists who applied for inclusion in the register, but received a refusal, and turned to the courts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;In this case, the right step would be for the Media Agency to automatically include in the register all those who express their intention to join the register, respecting the requirements of the Constitution.\u00a0Then, let it control how they follow the law in force, and apply the law.\u00a0But the most correct way, of course, is to change the reactionary legislation on the media.\u00a0The law that outlines the framework for the editorial policy, obligates the journalist how much and how to write and distribute news, and creates discrimination between those engaged in journalistic work, as written in the resolution adopted by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe last month, the law must be changed and measures applied to fully adapt it to the standards of the Council of Europe&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the first trial regarding the media registry in &#8230; <\/p>\n<p class=\"read-more-container\"><a title=\"First lawsuit against the Media Development Agency over registration begins\" class=\"read-more button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/first-lawsuit-against-the-media-development-agency-over-registration-begins\/#more-265558\" aria-label=\"Read more about First lawsuit against the Media Development Agency over registration begins\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":17,"featured_media":265562,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_sitemap_exclude":false,"_sitemap_priority":"","_sitemap_frequency":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[80,37,38],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-265558","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured-en","category-news","category-politics","infinite-scroll-item","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33","no-featured-image-padding"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>First lawsuit against the Media Development Agency over registration begins - MEYDAN.TV<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/first-lawsuit-against-the-media-development-agency-over-registration-begins\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"First lawsuit against the Media Development Agency over registration begins - MEYDAN.TV\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"This is the first trial regarding the media registry in ...
