{"id":265376,"date":"2023-01-10T14:50:01","date_gmt":"2023-01-10T10:50:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/?p=265376"},"modified":"2023-01-10T14:50:08","modified_gmt":"2023-01-10T10:50:08","slug":"the-united-states-called-for-the-immediate-release-of-tofig-yagublu-and-bakhtiyar-hajiyev","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/the-united-states-called-for-the-immediate-release-of-tofig-yagublu-and-bakhtiyar-hajiyev\/","title":{"rendered":"The United States called for the immediate release of Tofig Yagublu and Bakhtiyar Hajiyev"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Ned Price said Washington was concerned about the arrest of both men<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US called on the Azerbaijani authorities to immediately release activists Bakhtiyar Hajiyev and Tofig Yagublu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.turan.az\/ext\/news\/2023\/1\/free\/politics_news\/az\/218.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">On January 9, State Department official Ned Price said<\/a>\u00a0this while answering questions at the daily briefing\u00a0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Price said that Washington is deeply concerned about the arrest and detention of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev and Tofig Yagublu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the United States remains committed to promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We once again call on the government to respect the rights of its citizens, including the right to peaceful expression,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/az\/article\/abs-tofiq-yaqublu-ve-bextiyar-haciyevi-derhal-azad-etmeye-cagirib\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Price said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who has been in prison since December 9, is charged with articles 221.1 (hooliganism) and 289.1 (contempt of court) of the Criminal Code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He started a hunger strike yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the criminal case against Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, the conversation is about a scandal between the social activist and journalist Ulviyya Alovlu.\u00a0Hajiyev has been complaining to the police for a long time, demanding that Alovlu be brought to criminal responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some time ago, a video of what happened during the trial between both parties at the Yasamal District Court was released on social networks. In those images, Hajiyev throws some documents from his hand on a table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is claimed that the public activist is accused of hooliganism and contempt of court precisely because of this.\u00a0However, Hajiyev claims that he was arrested by orders from the Minister of Internal Affairs Vilayat Eyvazov.\u00a0From time to time, he criticized Vilayat Eyvazov and the activities of the ministry on his social media accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/wp-content\/uploads\/untitled-design-3-58.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-265349 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1200\/800;\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Bakhtiyar Hajiyev and Tofig Yagublu.&nbsp;Photo: Meydan TV<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hajiyev claimed that in April 2022, he was abducted by unknown persons in the center of the capital and subjected to violence.
