Turkey ranked second on the list, with 37 journalists behind bars, and China once again topped it with 47.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The four Azerbaijani journalists currently imprisoned are Afgan Sadygov, Polat Aslanov, Ikram Rahimov, and Elchin Ismayilli.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/cpj.org\/data\/people\/afgan-sadygov\/\"><br \/>\n    Sadygov<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  , chief editor and founder of azel.az, was most recently arrested on 13 May 2020 and found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison for extortion on 3 November 2020. Sadygov denies the charges.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A similar theme is seen in the cases of the other Azerbaijani journalists in jail, with<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/cpj.org\/data\/people\/polad-aslanov\/\"><br \/>\n    Aslanov<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  ,<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/cpj.org\/data\/people\/ikram-rahimov\/\"><br \/>\n    Rahimov<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  and<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/cpj.org\/data\/people\/elchin-ismayilli\/\"><br \/>\n    Ismayilli<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  having been found guilty of high treason, extortion and extortion, respectively.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  2020 also marked the<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/freed-journalist-afgan-mukhtarli-my-arrest-was-replaced-exile\/\"><br \/>\n    release<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  of journalist Afgan Mukhtarli from prison in Baku, who had been kidnapped from Tbilisi and brought to Azerbaijan to stand trial and be imprisoned.
