\n Azerbaijan has been ranked 147 among 165 independent states in the world, and awarded the label of an authoritarian regime, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Democracy Index.\n<\/p>\n

\n As it is noted in the Democracy Index, Azerbaijan is ranked closely before Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus also fell into the category of authoritarian regimes.\n<\/p>\n

\n The 165 independent states and two territories are divided into five categories. 60 different indicators including elections and pluralism, civil liberties, government activities, political activity of the population and political culture were taken into account while organizing the index. The countries are classified as one of four types of regime: Full democracy, flawed democracy, hybrid regime and authoritarian regime.\n<\/p>\n

\n Azerbaijan ranks 126th in Transparency International ranking

\n Meanwhile, Transparency International has released its Corruption Perception Indexes for 180 countries, placing Azerbaijan at 126, with one of the highest level of corruption in the 2019 ranking.
