As part of a wider criminal investigation, Mukhtarli\u2019s cell phone data will be sent for forensic analysis along with the computers of other journalists accused of working with Meydan TV.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u2018From the [court\u2019s] decision it\u2019s obvious that Afgan Mukhtarli\u2019s cell phone data has been illegally obtained [by the authorities],\u2019 Sadigov told Meydan TV. He added that investigators have access to the data from Mukhtarli\u2019s WhatsApp Messenger account.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u2018In addition, it was revealed that no signs of injuries were found on Afgan Mukhtarli\u2019s person,\u2019 Sadigov went on to say. \u2018But Afgan Mukhtarli was given a physical examination 38 days after [his arrest] occurred. We think that this report was compiled with the goal of concealing Afgan Mukhtarli\u2019s injuries.\u2019\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On 29 May Afgan Mukhtarli<br \/>\n  <a href=\"\/en\/article\/mukhtarli-charged-with-smuggling-in-baku-after-being-kidnapped-in-tbilisi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n    disappeared<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  in Tbilisi, Georgia, only to reappear under arrest in Baku. Azerbaijani authorities have charged Mukhtarli with crossing the border into Azerbaijan illegally, smuggling (he was allegedly carrying $10,000 at the time of his arrest), and resisting the orders of a police officer. The journalist himself has stated that he was kidnapped in Tbilisi and brought to Azerbaijan against his will.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Authorities have stated that Mukhtarli\u2019s case is now part of a larger<br \/>\n  <a href=\"\/en\/article\/meydan-tv-under-criminal-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n    criminal investigation<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  against Meydan TV. Azerbaijan\u2019s Prosecutor General has charged Meydan TV with illegal commercial activities, large-scale tax evasion, and interfering in elections. Meydan TV co-founder Emin Milli<br \/>\n  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurasianet.org\/node\/78436\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n    commented<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  in 2016 on the criminal investigation, saying, \u2018We consider this as a declaration of war against independent journalism in Azerbaijan.\u2019\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Afgan Mukhtarli is an investigative journalist who has published several pieces at Meydan TV. His last contribution before his arrest was an<br \/>\n  <a href=\"\/en\/article\/politically-motivated-kidnappings-in-azerbaijan-a-trend-in-the-making\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n    article<br \/>\n  <\/a><br \/>\n  about politically-motivated kidnappings in Azerbaijan.
