\n First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has been stripped of her parliamentary mandate per the decision of a Central Election Commission (CEC) meeting on Monday.\n<\/p>\n

\n Recently appointed to the position of First Vice President of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva has already served three terms as a member of parliament in Azerbaijan\u2019s Milli Majlis (National Assembly).\n<\/p>\n

\n Praising Aliyeva in an address to the committee, CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said that Aliyeva has already \u201cfulfilled the duty at the highest level and recognized as the most active member of parliament\u201d.\n<\/p>\n

\n Aliyeva was last elected an MP in 2015. On February 21 of 2017, she was appointed as First Vice President by President Ilham Aliyev.\n<\/p>\n

\n According to Article 89 of the Constitution of Azerbaijan, if a member of parliament takes another position in the state service, he or she must resign from parliament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
