{"id":182886,"date":"2017-02-28T20:45:18","date_gmt":"2017-02-28T20:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/article\/statue-of-famous-poet-removed-without-permission-from-downtown-baku\/"},"modified":"2021-10-29T13:52:36","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T09:52:36","slug":"statue-of-famous-poet-removed-without-permission-from-downtown-baku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/statue-of-famous-poet-removed-without-permission-from-downtown-baku\/","title":{"rendered":"Statue of Famous Poet Removed Without Permission From Downtown Baku"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/az\/69940\/\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-69940\"\/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\n  A statue of famous Soviet Azerbaijani poet Mikayil Mushviq was removed from its podium in Baku today.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  President Ilham Aliyev told his Advisor on Public and Political Issues Ali Hasanov that the \u201cperpetrators of this act will be seriously punished\u201d and demanded an investigation into the \u201cunacceptable\u201d incident.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mikayil Mushviq was a major Azerbaijani poet of the 1930s, however he fell out of favor with the Soviet authorities towards the end of his life and was eventually executed in 1938 at the age of 30 during the purges of Stalinism.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He was later exonerated, and his poetry was widely popularized in Nikita Khrushchev\u2019s efforts to de-stalinize the USSR.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Azerbaijan\u2019s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Qarayev commented that the removal of the statue was sheer \u201cdisrespect for Azerbaijani legislation and law\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Qarayev also demanded that those guilty of moving the statue be punished.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Construction company Azeravtoyol took down the statue while carrying out reconstruction works in Baku\u2019s neighborhood of Sovetski.
