{"id":182686,"date":"2017-02-21T15:50:56","date_gmt":"2017-02-21T15:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/article\/unrecognized-nagorno-karabakh-referendum-passes-87-percent-approve\/"},"modified":"2021-10-29T13:50:58","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T09:50:58","slug":"unrecognized-nagorno-karabakh-referendum-passes-87-percent-approve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/unrecognized-nagorno-karabakh-referendum-passes-87-percent-approve\/","title":{"rendered":"Unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Referendum Passes, 87 Percent Approve"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/az\/79687\/\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79687\"\/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\n  Residents of the separatist region of Azerbaijan currently under Armenian occupation, the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, have voted in an unrecognized constitutional referendum to switch to a fully presidential form of government and to adopt the official name of \u201cthe Republic of Artsakh\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  87.6 percent of ballots cast (69,540) voted in favor of the amendments.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  79,380 citizens (75.91 percent) of 104,566 eligible voters had cast their votes by 8 p.m. last night.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Speaker of the Nagorno-Karabakh parliament Ashot Gulyan said that the constitutional amendments will provide for a more efficient government.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe change is aimed at strengthening the mechanisms of ensuring the security of our country, its democracy, the protection of human rights and the efficacy of governance\u201d, Mr. Gulyan<br \/>\n  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitaljournal.com\/news\/world\/nagorny-karabakh-votes-in-illegal-referendum\/article\/486257\"><br \/>\n    told journalists.<br \/>\n  <\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Voters cast ballots in 280 polling stations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  According to Srbuhi Arzumanian, the head of Nagorno-Karabakh\u2019s electoral commission, more than 104 election monitors from more than 30 countries were expected to oversee the process,<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/euobserver.com\/foreign\/136961\"><br \/>\n    reported the euobserver.<br \/>\n  <\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  According to the same, even those who had to flee from the village of Talish during the fighting of the 4-Day War of 2016 in April were eligible to vote.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Voting started at 8 A.M. and lasted until 8 P.M. local time.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The international community largely criticized the referendum.
