{"id":182663,"date":"2017-02-20T20:07:06","date_gmt":"2017-02-20T20:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/article\/journalist-elchin-ismayilli-given-24-day-pre-trial-detention\/"},"modified":"2021-10-29T13:50:40","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T09:50:40","slug":"journalist-elchin-ismayilli-given-24-day-pre-trial-detention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/en\/article\/journalist-elchin-ismayilli-given-24-day-pre-trial-detention\/","title":{"rendered":"Journalist Elchin Ismayilli Given 24 Day Pre-trial Detention"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/az\/79561\/\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-79561\"\/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\n  Journalist Elchin Ismayilli, who is well-known for his reporting on issues in the Ismayilli region of Azerbaijan, was arrested on February 17.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He has been accused of extortion, reported Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party (APFP) Gozel Bayramli.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The deputy chair of the APFP believes that the journalist has been the target of provocation, and that he was arrested in connection with his publications critical of Mirdamet Sadiqov \u2013the head of the Ismayilli Region executive authority.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sadiqov was released from his position as the rector of Azerbaijan State Agrarian University in February 2013 by order of President Ilham Aliyev. By the same order, he was instated as the head of Ismayilli region.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The case has been turned over to the Investigative Department on Grave Crimes under the Prosecutor General\u2019s Office of Azerbaijan. On February 18, by decision of the Nasimi District court, he was given a pre-trial detention period of 24 days.
