If the authorities carry out the reforms that people expect, and you know perfectly well the people\u2019s mood, the mood of the street, and even the mood of the elites\u2026 And there are people in the elite who see that what\u2019s happening is wrong. I know them personally and know many of them,\u201d said Mammadov, who made a Facebook post a day after the Baku fire on May 19 criticizing the government.\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meydan.tv\/az\/26342\/\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26342\"\/><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\n  A number of diplomats \u201cliked\u201d Mammadov\u2019s post. Among them was Anar Madatli, a diplomat in Brussels and son of former Ambassador to Ukraine and Permanent Representative to the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) Eynulla Madatli. On June 3, 2015, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to recall Eynulla Madatli.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cAnd even if they start firing people because someone knows me, they\u2019ll have to dismiss the whole political elite,\u201d Mammadov said. \u201cSo that people understand that something must be done.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Those people who have now attacked me are holding more progressive members of the team in fear,&#8221; he added.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Earlier this week, diplomat Hikmet Hajiyev\u00a0apologized for \u201cliking\u201d Mammadov\u2019s post and \u201ccondemned the acts and thoughts of Arif Mammadov.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cInsults against his own people are not allowed. This is a prime example of how Arif Mammadov together with his patrons in Europe is involved in the anti-Azerbaijani propaganda campaign in the run-up to the European Games,\u201d Hajiyev wrote on his Facebook page.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mammdov commented in the interview that those who \u201cliked\u201d his post were subjected to \u201cgreat pressure.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The controversy goes back to Mammadov\u2019s May 20 Facebook post where the said the following: \u201cThis tragedy [Baku fire] is the pain and tragedy of every Azerbaijani. No people will tolerate so much shame and injustice. Officials make millions off our people\u2019s suffering, and if they do not fear the wrath of our people, then let them fear Allah&#8217;s wrath!\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mammadov confirmed in the interview with<br \/>\n  <i><br \/>\n    Vinegret.az<br \/>\n  <\/i><br \/>\n  that the post was authentic and belonged to him.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Some local media cried foul over they some called a \u201cmutiny\u201d within Azerbaijan\u2019s diplomatic corps.
