The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan (MoD) claimed that the Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire agreement again, after a flare up in the border region between both countries yesterday.
The ministry said that on the night of September 13 and in the early morning today, the positions of Azerbaijan in the directions of Kalbajar and Lachin regions were fired from mortars and artillery devices of various calibers.
“Currently, our positions are fired intermittently. Necessary response measures are being taken by our units,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Defense of Armenia also released information about the tense situation on the border between September 13 and 14 .
According to the information, Azerbaijani forces used air defense missiles in the direction of Jermuk:
“No significant incident was recorded in other areas of the aggression that happened a day ago. However, from 08am today, the enemy resumed offensive operations using artillery, mortars and large-caliber weapons, especially in the directions of Cermuk and Verin Shorja”.
As a result of an armed clash on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border on September 12, both sides suffered losses.
The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan released information about the loss of 50 and Armenia’s 49 servicemen .
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, it is claimed that armed forces of Armenia launched a large-scale attack in the directions of Dashkasan, Kalbajar and Lachin.
Aram Torosyan, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, said that Azerbaijan fired intensively in the direction of Goris, Sotk and Jermuk (Gorus, Zod and Istisu) regions of Armenia, and artillery and UAVs were involved in the battle.
International leaders phone Aliyev
Earlier today, French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
During the telephone conversation with Macron, the importance of ensuring sustainable peace and security in the region and continuing the peace agenda was emphasized.
It is noted in the information that President Aliyev, on the initiative of France, mentioned that the issue of tension on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan will be put on the agenda of the UN Security Council.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a telephone conversation with Aliyev that Ankara supports Azerbaijan in the dispute.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also expressed his concern about the tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border. He noted that the United States will continue its efforts to ensure lasting peace and security in the region, and to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan .
