A court decision was issued at the Sabail District Court.

Aziz Orucov, the head of “Kanal 13” internet television’s Baku office, has been sentenced to two years in prison.

On February 26, the Sabail District Court issued a decision against him. Orucov was found guilty under Article 188.2 of the Criminal Code (constructing or installing buildings or structures on land without ownership, usage, or rental rights).

The indictment states that he constructed a house in the Sabail district without the approval of government authorities.

Aziz Orucov denies the charges, calling them absurd. According to him, there are up to 500,000 unauthorized buildings in Baku and surrounding areas, yet no one else has been arrested like him. He believes he is being punished for the activities of “Kanal 13”.

Aziz Orucov was detained on November 27, 2023. His home and the channel’s office were searched.

Initially, Orucov was charged under Article 188.2 of the Criminal Code. On December 19, an additional charge was filed against him under Article 206.3.2 (smuggling by a group of people acting in concert).

However, when the case went to court, the smuggling charge was dismissed.
