OSCE deplores violence against journalists in Azerbaijan

OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Harlem Désir, has released a statement on the detentions and violence again journalists at last nights protest in Baku.

Désir noted he was "concerned", calling the mistreatment by police "unacceptable". He called on authorities to "swiftly investigate these incidents, bring all those responsible to account, and provide appropriate remedies for the victims".

Rabiya Mammadova, a candidate from the 3rd constituency of 10th Binagadi district, held a rally in front of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on 11 February.

Police dispersed the rally, detaining over 20 protesters and journalists, forcing them onto buses and driving them out of the city center.

One person suffered broken ribs, and others also suffered injuries that sent them to hospital.
