Another four sentenced to five to 15 years

Eight more people arrested over the Ganja developments were convicted on 30 September. Judges from the Ganja Court for Grave Crimes passed sentences against them in the building of the Sabunchu District Court.

Four of them – Shahin Verdiyev, Elmir Huseynzade, Vugar Yusifov and Emil Mammadov – were released. Emil Mammadov was 15 when he was arrested; the court took his young age into account and released him on parole. Shahin Verdiyev had had a heart attack while in prison. The judge also took his health condition into account and released him on parole. Vuqar Yusifov, who was serving an 18-month prison term, was released because his jail term had ended.

Bakram Aliyev, charged as part of the case, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, Habib Gurbanov to eight years, Mirza Huseynov to five years, and Asif Javadov to five years.

Up to 80 people have been jailed following the Ganja developments. Their cases were divided into several groups and sent to court. Among those tried in court, there is Yunis Safarov, a man who is charged with assaulting Elmar Valiyev, the former mayor of Ganja.
